Business Authenticity Crisis: The Silent Epidemic Threatening Companies in 2025

February 11, 20254 min read

"Explore the hidden business integrity crisis of 2025: How 'fake it till you make it' culture is damaging entrepreneurship and authentic business practices."

The fake it till you make it mentality has to die!! First, how has faking anything ever led to anything truly lasting and real? Faking is a nice word for lying unless you are an actor, and even then, that has become a blurry line in real life for some.

If you feel unqualified, I get the idea of projecting some confidence to do a role. Even with that, you are still not being authentic with the people you are working with or yourself about where your skill is really at. Why do we have to be perfect or strong at everything we do? It's time we all accept each other as works in progress.

If I had to guess, you have 80% of the skills you need to do the job. So why not own the skill you have, and every time you complete a skill you're not good at, ask for feedback? If you completely lack the skills, don't present yourself as an expert because it is lying.

A fake Entrepreneur with his rented mansion and super car

The biggest problem is how this mindset has shaped a culture in business that is truly lacking in integrity. It's becoming a standard practice to rent a supercar, mansion, or plane to sell a guru package, bragging about the results from the product they created to get these things. Most of the time, the courses these people make are ripped off from others who have done the same thing.

That is not to say there are no real deal, genuinely successful people. What breaks my brain is the people/con artists who sell systems that say they have figured out some hack or automated thing that basically prints money, and anyone can do it. If that were true, why would you tell anyone your secret method and lose market share?

The hidden integrity epidemic is rooted in the need for exponential growth overnight, which causes people to blur the line between marketing and lying. If you did not earn the supercar from the course you created, why are you projecting that you did?

The people I love to follow the most are the ones who put 90% of their methods out for free and let you decide if they are legit or not. We are ruining the integrity of creating products and services. When I build anything, I focus on how much value I can create for an affordable price where everyone wins. Most of the time, I give it away for free to test to see that it works, and then I collect testimonials from real people talking about the value.

We have to all stop and think about what integrity in business means. What are the costs of the misrepresentation we allow in the marketplace? I have seen the victims of some of these products. It sucks because a lot of the time, they spend money they did not have and don't get the results that were promised. I know this kind of thievery has been around for decades, but my concern is seeing people who are not con artists doing questionable marketing tactics as if it is normal.

It seems more and more people are living in the gray areas when it comes to business.

The digital persona that is destroying authentic life

The reason why I am saying this is a hidden epidemic is that I'm not sure many people recognize how often it's happening, or worse, that they are guilty, too. Social media creates a weird culture where we develop our persona of who we want people to think we are. We leave the reality of what is actually happening in our lives and the ability for people to connect with us authentically behind. This curation translates into how we represent our companies, products, and professional image. It is also becoming easier than ever to fake things with AI and the other tools we have.

Interestingly, we are seeing a move where we want authenticity from people but are not always willing to do the same.

So if this faking continues, where will it leave us? It is becoming harder and harder to trust the information in the digital world. For me, I don't want to add to this integrity epidemic. You can trust any content I create will be authentic to who I am, wrinkles and all. I would like to end this idea with a sincere note of who I am. You should not be surprised that I am a flawed person who has made many mistakes, but I am always trying my best to improve.
